Un livre un jour (A Book a Day)

Promotion of an Archival Collection
Since 1990, Olivier Barrot — the host of France 3's program "Un livre un jour" — has been presenting a different book every day. In order to promote 25 years of archives, WeDoData and Syllabs have developed a web application. This application offers a dynamic and lively way to use these archives by letting users create personalized reading lists with books presented in the TV program. The Syllabs Media solution made it possible to categorize over 5,000 books according to 'moods' such as euphoria, darkness or politics.

Slate Reader

Tagging and Linking of Articles
Slate Reader aggregates content from social networks. Articles are categorized according to their virality: News, Hot, Top. E-reputation Analysis
During the Euro 2012 championships, Syllabs analyzed the reputation of players during football games for Eurosport and TF1. In order to offer a fresh perspective on this competition, the site lets users enjoy games differently by comparing the players' actual performances with their reputation on Twitter. Syllabs' Semantics solution performed a real-time analysis of tweets mentioning players and detected the most recurrent words and judgments for each player ("best goal", "ugly", "awesome" etc.). Promotion of Historical Press Articles

Semantic Analysis of 18-20th Century OCR Documents
BnF-Partenariats and its partner Immanens are currently promoting a part of the archival collection of the BnF (National Library of France), consisting of some 9 million documents from the historical press. This operation requires a semantic enrichment in order to facilitate navigation, increase visibility and enhance the contents. Syllabs analyzes documents to extract named entities, themes, events and subjects. The user interface developed by Immanens will make it possible to showcase these documents and provide links to the Gallica image collection.

Customer Voice Analysis

Customer Satisfaction Barometer
In order to provide a customer satisfaction barometer, we perform a monthly analysis of customer verbatims via a dedicated web service (API). Every month, our client — a leading French e-commerce firm — receives thousands of responses to their after-sales satisaction survey. In order to analyze the free text, Syllabs has developed an analyzer that detects the verbatim's topic, allowing the e-merchant to easily forward the verbatims to the appropriate department (delivery, packing, support etc.) and providing them with monthly customer satisfaction metrics and feedback.

Words matter
Syllabs is a multi-talented team of computer engineers, R&D engineers and linguists passionate about language and information processing.

Our Values

Syllabs was born from a technological vision to meet information handling requirements:

  • Semantic analysis can and must play a major role in our approach to information;
  • The generic semantic analyses that are generally offered by current players in the field cannot operate correctly when dealing with specific needs;
  • The quantity of information to be processed is often very high and therefore high speed parsers are necessary;
  • Information evolves very rapidly and the parsers that have been developed must therefore be easily and incrementally modifiable;
  • Semantic analysis is only a part of a much greater whole and it is thus necessary to place it into larger solutions.

From the very start, Syllabs’ purpose has been to develop semantic technology that is easy to specialize, fast, robust and integrated into a large value chain.
